Stonewaters was conceived in 1999 by two childhood school mates Tim Nokes and Mike Gordon. The two had met in elementary school in 1970 in Banff when Mike’s family had moved into the fabled mountain town. Fast forward to 1999, the two founded Stonewaters in the current location of Benjamin Moore on Bow Valley Trail. It successfully operated there until 2005 but it became apparent the space and location was not ideal considering Canmore’s swelling residential expansion. It was at that time when Mike was approached by Phil Marra of the legendary local grocery business Marra’s to take over the space which was a highly desirable downtown location. Mike quickly agreed to this and Tim designed a timeless retrofit of the building that has won awards for Architectural excellence in the redesign. Kim Ansley of Impact construction and his crew magically transformed the store in less than two months.
Stonewaters would not be here today without the exceptional team of staff we have been so fortunate to have currently and over the past 17 years.
